Ornleafer Sodium Chloride Hypertonicity Ophthalmic Solution, 5% is a medication that provides temporary relief from corneal edema by using a concentrated salt solution to draw fluid out of the swollen cornea, thus reducing swelling, improving vision, and alleviating discomfort like halos around lights. It's applied by instilling 1-2 drops into the affected eye(s) every 3-4 hours, but requires physician supervision and a doctor should be consulted if symptoms worsen or persist beyond 72 hours. While temporary burning and irritation are expected, serious side effects like severe pain, changes in vision, or increased redness warrant immediate medical attention.
How It Works
The 5% sodium chloride solution is a hypertonic agent.
Its high concentration of salt helps to draw excess fluid out of the cornea.
This reduces swelling in the cornea (corneal edema), which can cause symptoms like blurry vision and halos around lights.
Common Use and Dosage
Application: Instill 1 or 2 drops into the affected eye(s).
Frequency: Apply every 3 to 4 hours, or as directed by a doctor.
Ointment Alternative: The same active ingredient is also available as an ointment, often recommended for nighttime use.
Important Considerations
Medical Supervision: Use this product only under the supervision of a physician.
Symptoms: Expect some temporary stinging or burning, which is a normal and expected side effect.
When to Stop & See a Doctor:
If symptoms persist for more than 72 hours or worsen.
If you experience eye pain, blurred vision, or continued redness.
If you see halos around lights, as this may indicate worsening symptoms.
Contamination: Do not touch the tip of the container to any surface, including the eye.
Outdated Medication: Do not use outdated medicine or if the solution changes color or becomes cloudy.
Children: Use in children must be determined by a doctor.
